Happy New Year, Culver City! Come on in, have a seat 🪑and let us share what we were up to on New Year's Eve.
In addition to keeping eyes out for impaired driving, in the span of just a few hours, officers made 4 arrests for theft related offenses.
First, at 11:10 pm near Bristol Parkway and Centinela Avenue, officers observed a suspicious subject with not one, but two bicycles in his possession. The subject was found in possession of methamphetamine, burglary tools, access cards, vehicle registration, and other pieces of mail in someone else's name. The subject was arrested for probable cause burglary.
At 11:15 pm on Overland Avenue, an officer likely interrupted a burglary from occurring when he observed suspicious subjects carrying backpacks and flashlights to the rear of a closed business. One of the suspects was found in possession of methamphetamine and an access card in someone else's name. The suspect was arrested for petty theft with a prior.
Over on Diller Avenue at 12:45 am, we learned that a burglary had occurred. Officers quickly obtained video footage that confirmed 2 suspects were involved in the theft. Police immediately began searching for the suspects and a short time later, an officer spotted the burglars in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Overland Avenue. When police attempted to detain the suspects they both fled on foot. A perimeter was established and one of the suspects was taken into custody in the area of Summertime Lane and Maytime Lane. Officers located the other suspect in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Leahy Street. Another foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was taken into custody. Police located the backpacks the suspects attempted to discard, which had a total of 3 stolen handguns, multiple loaded magazines, and stolen property inside (pictured). Both suspects were arrested and booked for the burglary of multiple Culver City homes.
