Christina McGovern, (Chrissie) 90 years of age, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on 15 December 2024 at Marycrest Manor in Culver City. Christina was born 01 October 1934 in Glasgow, Scotland to late Hugh McGauley and Frances (Moscardini) McGauley. She was the middle child of 3 children, one preceded in death.
At 14 years of age, Christina met her beloved husband, the late Joseph McGovern, in Glasgow Scotland and following their dream to immigrate to America, they sailed to New York to live and be married in 1952 they settled in Newark, New Jersey. They then moved to Sunkist Park, Culver City, California and raised 4 children living there for over 60 years. They were members of St. Augustine's Church, where Christina also taught CCD, the Thistle Club in Santa Monica,
and Joseph, a Master Carpenter, was a long-time employee of MGM Studios.
Christina and Joseph sponsored many families and friends wishing to immigrate to the USA, providing them a place to live. Christina was ambitious and hard working. Firstly, as a dedicated homemaker, also doing office work for Joseph's early carpentry business, a preschool teacher, worked at Culver City High School and Newberrys. She later started her own daycare business in Culver City.
Christina had an infectious joyful spirit she loved cruising, dancing and reading, real estate, cooking and caring for others, she had an interest in the Royal family also in finding a good bargain! She was a faithful Catholic, beautiful, loving and caring lady, devoted wife, mother, and friend, always thinking of others first. She leaves behind her 4 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many family and friends, to cherish her memory.
Christina will be laid to rest, along with her husband Joseph's ashes, at Holy Cross Cemetery In Culver City, on Tuesday January 7th at 11:00am.
There will be a visitation the day before at Holy Cross, between 3:00pm -7;00pm
