Robbery Suspect Arrested After Seven-Hour Standoff

At approximately 8:57 am on Saturday, December 14, Culver City Police received a report of a robbery that occurred Jin's Shell Services at the corner of Culver Boulevard and Motor Avenue. Police immediately responded to the area and contacted the victim. The victim was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the robbery. Simultaneously, officers searched the immediate area for the suspect, who had fled eastbound on Culver Boulevard on foot.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter in the area and spotted the suspect not far from the robbery location in the area of Jasmine Avenue and Braddock Drive. The suspect entered a detached residential garage on the 4100 block of Jasmine Avenue and barricaded himself inside. The residents exited the home, and officers ensured they were safe and unharmed. They then attempted to have the suspect exit the garage. Initially, the suspect refused to respond to officers' orders to exit the garage.

Culver City Police brought in additional resources to assist in the arrest of the suspect. The Culver City Crisis Negotiation Team, drone Team, and K9 Unit all responded to help with the incident. Multiple agencies from the surrounding areas provided mutual aid assistance.

Over the next six hours, Culver City Police consistently used crisis negotiation techniques in attempts to talk the suspect out of the garage. After patiently working to bring the suspect out of the resident's garage, the Crisis Negotiation Team and patrol officers safely took the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect exited the garage and was taken into custody; while barricaded in the garage, the suspect had changed into clothing belonging to the homeowners. The Jasmine Avenue and Braddock Drive area was reopened shortly after the suspect was arrested. We thank our residents for their partnership and extended patience while officers worked to resolve this incident safely for all.
