The Culver City Police Department on Wednesday announced it received a $100,000 state grant that will help fund enforcement and education programs.
The grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will support the department's ongoing enforcement and education programs meant to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on the city's roads. The grant runs through September 2025, according to the CCPD
"We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety," Chief Jason Sims said. "By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone."
Police officials say the grant will fund several initiatives, including:
DUI checkpoints and patrols
High visibility, distracted-driving enforcement operations meant to crack down on phone use
Enforcement operations that target drivers who endanger cyclists and pedestrians
Enforcement of violations for speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and red light running and improper turning or lane changes - which police say are the top crash-causing violations
Presentations on traffic safety topics like distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and bicycle and pedestrian safety
Officer training and recertification for the Standard Field Sobriety Test, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement and Drug Recognition Expert programs
