The Los Angeles Kings beat the Seattle Kraken 2-1 on Saturday, but the highlight was forward Quinton Byfield getting a power play, game-winning goal in the second period, his third goal of the season, and which was his 98th point (31-67=98) in 200 career NHL games.
Byfield, the No. 2 overall pick by the Kings in 2020, is still trying to make a name for himself and deliver the goods for the Kings organization. The Kings have high hopes for him and have been very patient with his growth and progress. Hopes so high that he got a contract extension which is a display of confidence.
Goals for Byfield have been a bit scarce so far this season but he is the ultimate optimist and always stays confident, even during down times.
"Yeah, it's obviously tough, you do think about it, but you've got to stay positive," said Byfield. "I've learned from the best in Kopi (veteran captain Anze Kopitar), all the time he's just even-keeled. I look at his attitude and go off that. For myself, I always try to be happy, that's just my personality, always just doing that and I don't want to get anyone else down around me. When it comes, it comes nicely and hopefully more."
There's a tradition in hockey that when a team wins the game, the players line up and take turns congratulating the goalie. Byfield always gives the goalie a big, joyful bear-hug.
Byfield is only 22 years-of-age and is continuing to learn and mature in the league.
He is determined to make a name for himself.
