Los Angeles Kings veteran captain Anze Kopitar hit the 800-assist milestone in a 6-3 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights. Kopitar, the franchise assist leader, had a goal and two assists and became the third active player to the milestone as he joined Sidney Crosby (1,013), Patrick Kane (818) and Evgeni Malkin (809). Only 34 other NHL players all-time can boast this achievement. And he became the fifth player born and trained outside of North America (Slovenia) to reach 800 assists, joining Jaromir Jagr (1,155), Nicklas Lidstrom (878), Henrik Sedin (830) and Malkin.
He got the 800th-assist on Kevin Faila's power-play goal.
Making his debut in 2006, Kopitar has spent his entire career with the Kings, has led the team in scoring in all but two seasons, is second in franchise history in points and fourth in goals.
So far this season, he leads the team in points with four goals and eight assists and there's no sign of slowing down.
Kopitar continues to be a force to be reckoned with due to his size, strength and intelligence. He's as difficult to play against as any player in the league because he's responsible defensively, checks very well, especially with his stick, and is one of the best in the league at anticipating where the puck is going and jumping in to cut off cycles.
