CC Arts Foundation Seeks Publics Financial Help to Continue the Concerts
For many years, Culver City residents enjoyed the summer concerts on Thursday evenings. The series became a cultural tradition, with hundreds gathering in the City Hall Courtyard to listen to and dance to some phenomenal musicians. When the pandemic hit, the concerts were discontinued, and our summers were never the same.
But I am happy to report that the City Council has accepted a proposal from city staff and the Culver City Arts Foundation to reinstitute the Summer Sunset Music Series beginning on Thursday, July 27 and running for five Thursdays thereafter.
There is one change. During the time the concerts were on hiatus, the Culver Steps project (across from the Culver Hotel and the Culver Studios) was completed with the idea of its becoming a musical venue. The concerts will be held at the Culver Steps.
In obtaining Council approval, the Culver City Arts Foundation agreed to subsidize half of the concert costs, estimated to be $30,000, through an active fundraising effort in the community. That is where you come in. Your help is needed, since this commitment is over and above Culver Arts' regular grant programs.
Help us to meet our fundraising goal by donating today. Any amount and every amount donated by you will be matched dollar for dollar by Culver Arts. To donate, visit our website http://www.culverarts.org and hit the donate button. If you send us a check, there are no processing fees. Mail to Culver City Arts Foundation, P.O. Box 4521, Culver City, CA 90231-4521. All donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged. Large donors will have the opportunity to have a table at each concert to promote their activities and events.
If everyone chips in something, we will be able to have a summer of music and fun in downtown Culver City.
