On Saturday, August 31, Culver City Police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at the 5800 block of Green Valley Circle. The suspect had brandished a firearm at an ATM location, demanded money, and threatened to shoot the victim. When the victim ran into a bank location for safety, the suspect followed and then eventually exited the area. Officers immediately launched an investigation to locate the suspect involved.
Culver City detectives have identified the suspect, who was believed to be responsible, and worked quickly to locate her. On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Culver City Emergency Response and Crisis Negotiation Teams and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle operators worked to bring the suspect into custody. Multiple requests were made for the suspect to exit the residence where she had been located, to no avail. After a dialogue was established between the suspect and the Crisis Negotiation Team, the suspect, Mattie Harris of Inglewood, was safely brought into custody.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Culver City Police Detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing. Suspect Harris was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and felon in possession of ammunition.
