Rams hit the ground running at the start of training camp

The Los Angeles Rams started their training camp at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for the first-time last week, and there's a lot of optimism surrounding the team. The preparation and development so far indicate promising improvements in several key areas, from a revamped offensive line to a potentially explosive wide receiver core. With a blend of seasoned talent and emerging rookies, the Rams are positioning themselves for a strong season ahead.

Just over a week into training camp, several key takeaways are emerging for the Rams. The running game appears set to improve, with Kyren Williams firmly established as the lead back, though rookie standout Blake Corum from Michigan is expected to get some opportunities this year. The wide receivers have the potential to be one of the most dynamic in the league, with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nakua both appearing healthy and that's especially crucial for Kupp, who underwent ankle surgery last season. Sixth-round rookie wide receiver Jordan Whittington from Texas has been a standout early in camp, and while expectations for him to match last year's fifth-round gem, Nakua are tempered, any meaningful contribution would be a bonus.

The offensive line is also shaping up to be stronger, with new center Steve Avila anchoring the unit. Additionally, the Rams' selection of Stanford kicker Joshua Karty with the 209th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft could prove to be a difference-maker this season.

On the defensive side, keep an eye on Jared Verse, one half of the Florida State Seminoles duo drafted this year alongside Braden Fiske, as both could become key players for the Rams as the season progresses.

With just over 30 days remaining before the start of the 2024 NFL season, the Rams are ramping up and looking to build on last season's momentum. The team rebounded from a 3-6 start to finish with a 7-1 record in their final eight games to conclude the 2023 season.

Coach Sean McVay captured the essence of the NFL season and the team's mindset early in camp this year, saying, "Every single year is a new year," said McVay "We've got a long way to go, but I like what I've seen." McVay's comments touched on the inherent uncertainty of the NFL season, acknowledging that despite extensive preparation, injuries and unforeseen factors can significantly impact how the season unfolds. Nonetheless, the optimism remains unwavering.
