LA Clippers Sign Derrick Jones Jr.

The LA Clippers have signed forward Derrick Jones Jr., it was announced by President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank.

"Derrick is an incredible athlete and a versatile defender who excels in transition and attacks the rim," said Frank. "As we experienced firsthand in the playoffs against Dallas, he can change a game with his length and activity. We are going to have a tenacious defense this season and DJJ will be a huge part of it."

Jones Jr., 27, averaged a career-high 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 76 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season. The 6-foot-6 forward also started in 22 playoff games en route to an NBA Finals appearance, averaging 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 blocked shot. A native of Chester, Pa., Jones Jr. has appeared in 420 career games with the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls and Mavericks, averaging 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 50.2% from the field. Jones Jr. won the 2020 NBA Slam Dunk Contest and was named Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball in 2015.
