Culver City Welcomed Five Exchange Students from Iksan City, South Korea

This past August 1-11, Culver City Sister City Committee (CCSCC) along with Culver City (Culver) welcomed a delegation of five students and two chaperones from Iksan City (Iksan) marking the restart of the student exchange and homestay program with its sister cities that were paused during the global pandemic.

As part of this CCSCC program, Iksan students were paired with local Culver students Josie Smith, Joshua Nadel, Clara Ramos, Ezra Huang, Lucine Linnemayr and hosted by their families. CCSCC members along with the students and their parents worked in creating a schedule of fun activities showcasing Culver and American culture. The program included a meet and greet with Culver Mayor Albert Vera, a welcome picnic, visits to the Wende Museum, Culver Historical Society, Culver Police Departments and Sony Studios, the Summer Sunset Music Series among other fun activities.

We were proud to witness the Culver students engaging with their Korean "brother and sisters" overcoming the language barrier, taking turns to learn and teach, and going above and beyond to make our visitors feel welcomed. The visit became a memorable experience to all thanks to them, their families, along with the many organizations, groups and people from the community supporting from behind the scenes.

Next year it will be the Culver students turn to travel to Iksan. We are sure that the city will be well represented by these true citizen diplomats!
