The preseason in the National Football League (NFL) is a time to showcase younger players and give the coaches an opportunity to try to discover the next stars of the future. For the Rams it all starts on Saturday at 6 p.m. at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood when they face the Chargers. As usual most of the starting players will not play but key second and third team players will be out on the field.
"We have to get guys ready to go," said Rams head coach Sean McVay last Saturday at the Rams training at UC Irvine. "For the most part we will be playing a lot of guys and there will be a few guys that won't play."
During the practice last Saturday, the team displayed a lot of competitive spirit and that's typical of Sean McVay's teams. "What I appreciate about this group is that we are getting better," said McVay. "There are a lot of good plays on both sides of the ball. We have some young guys that are doing things for the first time. We just want to see our guys not make the same mistake twice."
Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is one of the best defensive players in the NFL, likes what he sees so far this year. "I see us getting better every day. I am doing what I can to keep myself ready. I am trying to lead by example. That's what I am here for."
Players that looked good in practice last Saturday were receiver TuTu Atwell and former UCLA player, Quentin Lake. Lake looks bigger, stronger and faster this year.
The Rams' next preseason games are next Saturday at home against the Las Vegas Raiders at 6 p.m. and on the road against the Denver Broncos at 6.m. They open the regular season on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on September 10, at 1:25 p.m. and their first home game of the regular season is September 17, against the San Francisco 49ers at 1:05 p.m.
