Howard "Zager, know to his friends and associates as Howie died on Monday, July 3rd. He was 75 years old. He was a respected teacher at Culver City High School from 1972 until his retirement in 2010.He continued serving as a substitute teacher for a job he loved for years after his retirement.
"Zager earned degrees from Santa Monica Community College, University of California at Los Angles, University of Southern California and New York University. During his years at CCHS, he taught English, Spanish, History and English as a Second Language. After he retired, the school dedicated a bench in the quad to him, but his retirement only lasted a year before he was back on campus as a 'substituting.
In addition to teaching, Zager loved to travel, and visited 90 countries. He was an avid square dancer, loved to cook, and attended the theater as often as possible. He was a patron of the Pantages, the Ahmanson, the Dolby, and the Mark Taper.
Services were held Thursday, July 6th at Home of Peace Memorial Park and Mortuary 4334 Whittier Blvd. in Los Angeles.
Zager created a foundation in his family's name to support scholarship, and is presented annually.
