LACOFD USAR Team Provides Assistance in Mammoth

Six members of the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team were deployed as Type 1 resources by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services in March.

The USAR team members were deployed to assist the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department as they dealt with the effects of heavy snow fall during the recent rainstorms.

At one point, the Mammoth Lakes area received nearly 700 inches of snow.

USAR team members helped the area’s local residents and business owners as they dealt with properties that were collapsing due to the weight of the snow; in some cases, the heavy snow even caused gas line ruptures and fires.

Along with the Department’s USAR team members were crews from Pasadena, Chula Vista, Carlsbad, and San Bernardino as well as a hazardous materials unit from San Diego
