Voters Elect New Council Members on Tuesday

On Tuesday November 5, Culver City voters will go to the polls to elect a new President of the United State, United States Senator from California and will fill 5 city council seats.

Running for re-election are Albert Vera, and Yasmine-Imani Morrin. Seeking to fill the empty seat are Denice Renteria, Nancy Barba and Jeannie Wisnosky Stehlin, who will be vying for the seat currently filled by being vacated by Göran Eriksson, who is barred from seeking a third consecutive term.

In the contentious campaign Wisnosky Stehlin seeks to put an emphasis on homelessness, the arts in Culver City and improving parks and playground, Barba has been endorsed by The Stonewall Democratic Club, Housing Action

Albert Vera's plan will secure Culver City's future. Albert spearheaded the push to create Culver City's new Safe Sleep Site, eliminate unsafe and unsanitary homeless encampments and get people off the streets. His plan includes connecting unhoused individuals and families will the resources they need, including mental health services.

A longtime affordable housing advocate, Albert will push for affordable units that enable our children and grandchildren to remain here in Culver City instead of having to leave the city they love in search of a home they can afford.

Albert voted to change the controversial MOVE Culver City pilot project that has snarled traffic and had a severe negative impact on our Downtown businesses. He will push for changes that not only promote mobility and encourage the use of public transit and cycling; but also address the concerns of residents and business owners regarding traffic congestion and access to local businesses and neighborhoods.

Albert , a lifelong Culver City resident will support efforts to make sure our first responders have the tools and resources they need to keep our community safe and reduce emergency response times. He has received the endorsement of the Culver City Police officers association, Culver City Firefighters Association, Heart of Los Angeles Democratic Club, Laborers' International Union of North America, Local 300, Los Angeles County Democratic Party, Culver City Democrats United, Western States Carpenters Coalition, and Westside Young Democrats join the Sierra Club, Culver City Democratic Club. Vera, a local business owner has also been endorsed by the Culver City Chamber of Commerce.

Barba's campaign for Culver City Council looks to prioritize permanent housing for the homeless, tenant protections, Care-Centered Budgeting for Our City: reverse budget shortfalls by implementing bottom-up financial planning with community-informed priorities; explore additional revenue sources by adding grant writers and a grant coordinator to make us more competitive, expand the unarmed Mobile Crisis Team so that it is in operation 24/7, Fish looks to housing is abundant, make our street safe and make sure that Culver City remains a vibrant place where people of all ages, races, and backgrounds can thrive.

As a member of LAHSA leadership, Yasmine believes in data; and the data shows that most Americans are a paycheck or an emergency away from housing insecurity. A lot of the work from our elected officials around homelessness starts with keeping neighbors in their homes with renter and tenant protections. Yasmine is committed to prioritizing a wrap-around approach to addressing this crisis that provides and ensures stable housing, support services, and job opportunities as steps in helping individuals rebuild their lives.

A strong advocate for Public Safety Denice Renteria plans to work will work to ensure the safety and well-being of all Culver City residents in every neighborhood at all times of the day. Your safety and well-being are my top priorities.

Renteria has been endorsed by Culver City Democrats United, the Culver City Firefighters Association along with other local groups.

Ensure our Police Department has the resources it requires while also addressing protocol concerns from residents

Allocate the required resources to the Fire Department to enable them to maintain their Class 1 status.

Investing in cutting-edge technology that is tailored to the specific needs of our departments will enhance their operational capabilities and overall efficiency

Allocate resources aimed at reducing response times for all Emergency Services.

During her next term, Yasmine-Imani McMorrin plans to prioritize: Expanded access to mental health services including our Mobile Crisis Unit, addiction treatment, and job training programs.

Imani McMorrin is a strong advocate of rent control. She wants to increasing funding for affordable housing projects and implementing rent control and tenant protection measures to ensure long-term affordability.

She has been an advocate of defunding the Culver City Police Department and has consistently vote to reduce the budget of the police department.

Jeannie Wisnosky Stehlin wants to prioritize improving streets, lighting, and public spaces to create safer neighborhoods for all.

She has been endorsed by Councilman Albert Vera, Dan O'Brien, Crystal Czarnecki Alexander, former councilman, Jim Clarke, Alan Corlin, Jeff Cooper along with other community leaders.

The Los Angeles chapter of the Siera Club has endorsed Imani McMorrin, Barba, and Fish for seats on the city council.

In a related race the club has endorsed Sameen Ahmadia and Andrew Lachman for seats on the Culver City School Board,

Littering has become an issue with many residents with groups stealing election signs and tossing them in the streets and intersections.

The voters will also electing two members to the Culver City Unified School District Board of trustees.

The candidates on the ballot are Lindsay Carlson, Andrew Lachman and Sameen Ahmadnia.
