CC Police Chief Cid Leaving His Post Next Month

Culver City Police Chief Manuel Cid has announced that he is leaving on January 15 to take a similar position with the City of Glendale.

Cid has headed the Police Department since June 2020, following the departure of former Police Chief Scott Bixby. He has served Culver City for the past 18 years.

At its recent meeting, the City Council appointed Assistant Chief Jason Sims as the Interim Police Chief to lead the organization effective January 16, 2023. The Police Department is comprised of 160 staff members.

Cid, a first-generation, Cuban American who grew up in the Long Beach and Downey area, was appointed as the 26th Culver City Police Chief in May 2021.

Following his Dec. 21 announcement, Cid talked to local media about his time in Culver City. “It’s been my whole adult life, working here, and this place means a lot me,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot of change at the department, and I’m proud of where we are right now.”

However, he added that the City of Glendale represented a good opportunity for him.
