USC women's volleyball senior
outside hitter Skylar Fields (Missouri
City, Texas/Ridge Point HS)
was named the GameChanger/
AVCA National Player of the Week
by the American Volleyball Coaches
Association on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Fields was also picked as the
Pac-12's Offensive Player of the
Week for the second consecutive
week (Oct. 3, Oct. 10) and receives
the 12th all-time national weekly
honor won by a Trojan player. She
is the first USC player selected
since All-American OH Khalia Lanier
was picked on Nov. 12, 2019.
Fields leads the Pac-12 in kills
(308, ninth nationally), kills per
set (4.89 kps, seventh nationally),
points (336.0, 12th nationally), and
points per set (5.33 pps, 10th nationally).
She helped power USC to
a pair of four-set road wins at Arizona
and Arizona State with 49 kills
(6.13 kps) on .381 hitting. Fields set
new career marks with 27 kills and
29.0 points against the Sun Devils
and logged her fifth and sixth consecutive
20-kill matches. She now
has eight 20-plus kill contests this
season and 16 in double digits.
Fields also posted 13 digs against
Arizona and 12 more against ASU
to total 25 and averaged 3.13 dps
over the weekend while collecting
the fifth and sixth double-doubles of
her career.
USC claimed a pair of four-set
wins over the weekend to improve
to 13-4 overall and to 5-1 in Pac-
12 contests. The Trojans are tied
for first in the league standings as
they return home to Galen Center
to host 17th-ranked Oregon (10-4,
4-2) on Friday (Oct. 14) at 8 p.m.
PT and Oregon State (6-10, 1-5)
on Sunday (Oct. 16) at noon. Both
matches are set to be shown live
on the Pac-12 Networks.
