Culver City Teen's Doodle Now Graces Sun-Maid Raisins Boxes

A local teenager’s artwork is now featured on Sun-Maid raisins boxes available Target stores around the country.

Abigael P., age 13 from Culver City, was one of the three winners in the Doodle Challenge and his doodle graces the front of the snack's box until the end of September. His design was chosen by Sun-Maid's Board of Imagination.

“Our Board of Imagination inspires us to continue to find ways to bring imagination to life in new and creative, and generous ways,” said Harry Overly, President & CEO – and “Chief Imagination Wrangler” of Sun-Maid Growers of California.

Overly added that the seasonal packaging is part of Sun-Maid's back-to-school campaign "feeds imagination" and strives to make ‘goodness’ possible.

Sun-maid also donated $50,000 to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer. The kids in the Board of Imagination, aged 6 to 12, voted to support the kid-focused charity in the spring of 2022.

“It is so special to be selected by Sun-Maid’s Board of Imagination to receive this very generous $50,000 donation,” said Liz Scott, Alex’s mom and Co-Executive Director of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. “We’re so inspired by kids-helping-kids and this couldn’t be a more wonderful choice to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children fighting cancer.

The other winners in the Doodle Contest were 10-year-old Mia R, from Visalia, CA; and Sylvie W, age 11 from New York City.

“Our Board of Imagination kids are full of goodness and possibility and we’re so inspired by the work that they are doing to help others,” said Overly. “We’re so humbled to be a part of a giving campaign like this to kick off the school year.”
