Walk & Roll Festival Returns

September 24 marks the return of the Culver City Rotary Community Foundation’s Walk & Roll Festival.

The Walk & Roll Festival is a free, family-friendly event focused on teaching kids how to safely ride their bikes to and from school. As part of the city-wide Safe Routes to School program, the Festival is open to all Culver City students as well as neighboring schools.

Now in its 10th year, the Walk & Roll Festival has proven to be a valuable community event for kids of all ages. Participants have an opportunity to ride a bicycle skills course featuring several stations and led by certified cycling instructors. They will learn and practice essential safety skills such as proper starting/stopping techniques, scanning and signaling, yielding and how to avoid hazards. Kids that demonstrate a high level of mastery of skills will be invited on group rides with our instructors.

Kids will also learn how to properly fit and adjust their helmet or pick up a new one if needed. Mechanics will be on hand to check all bikes for safety and provide minor repairs as necessary.

In addition to the bike skills areas there will be a Creation Station sponsored by TruSmile Orthodontics, with fun traffic-related crafts, free smoothies from the Co-Opportunity Market and their Bike Bender, and roller skate demos and lessons from L.A. Skate Hunnies. Snacks and drinks will be on hand for all and goody bags and t-shirts will be available for the kids (while supplies last).

Culver City Rotary Community Foundation is a proud sponsor of the event as sustainability is a key pillar in the mission of Rotary International. Teaching kids to be active and educating them on the value of alternative modes of transit are essential to that goal.
