Services Planned for Lillian Coopersmith

July 2, 1928 - August 15, 2022

Services for Lillian Coopersmith of Culver City were held on Monday August 22 at Hillside Memorial Park. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15th, she was 94 years old. She is survived by her children, Peter Rubenstein, Danny Rubenstein and Sandy Rubenstein, as well as her daughter-in-law Marie-Jeanne Lambert, grandsons Joshua Rubenstein and Aaron Rubenstein, as well as her sisters - Sara, Dora, Ida and Miriam.

Those who were fortunate enough to have shared time with Lillian will remember her for her warmth and welcoming smile, as well as her genuine open heartedness, curiosity and generosity of spirit.

Family and community were very important to her, both immediate and extended. She was a very active member of the Temple Akiba congregation in Culver City for over 45 years, and even became a bat mitzvah at the age of 87.

Lillian deeply believed that every person, regardless of background or circumstances deserved the opportunity to live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. She contributed to many causes designed to lift up and support those less fortunate and believed in the importance of participating in peaceful, social and political activism, including standing in solidarity with those at risk due to political or racial injustice.

Lillian truly loved young children and had a very fulfilling professional career as a reading, ESL and special needs teacher for over 30 years. She also loved to travel, which she did extensively with her late husband, Art Coopersmith.

Funeral services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary at 6001 W Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045 on Monday, August 22nd at 10:00 AM. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Temple Akiba.
