Los Angeles police have intensified their efforts to find a hit-and-run driver who killed a woman crossing a Playa del Rey street and injured her 3-year-old son over the weekend.
Wendy Galdamez Palma, 33, of Downey, was struck and killed by a dark-colored Chevrolet Equinox around 10:30 p.m. Saturday while crossing Vista Del Mar to get to her vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities believe the woman was cradling her son and tried to shield him from the crash. The boy suffered a broken leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was released on Sunday, police said.
The victim was married and had two boys, ages 3 and 4, her family members told local media. At the time of the crash, her 4-year-old was with his father. The family had spent time at the beach and were walking to their car when the hit-and-run crash occurred, the Palma family said.
Police investigators said the driver of the dark-colored sedan did not stop at all after hitting two people. They haven’t yet released any description of the suspect.
The crash remains under investigation by the LAPD for felony hit-and-run. The suspect vehicle is believed to have sustained significant front-end damage, said LAPD who are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
