UCLA Bruins football team will open their season against Hawaii Saturday at the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Bruins are hoping to turn the program around this season after fours years of losing. If they don't have a winning season in 2021 this will probably be Chip Kelly's last year as their head coach.
With nine starters returning on offense and seven on defense Kelly will l have to produce to keep his job. UCLA fans are still waiting after three years for Kelly to generate the same excitement he created in Oregon when he was one of the best college coaches in the nation.
On offense quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson returns to lead that unit. Thompson-Robinson needs to be consistent if the Bruins expect to have a winning record. He has plenty of targets this season and one of them is one of the best tight ends in the country in Greg Dulcich along with receivers Kyle Phillips and Chase Cota.
UCLA has also picked up several transfer running backs to go along with returning starter Brittain Brown. Speedy running back Kazmier Allen could make a big difference this year if the coaches put him in the right position to make plays. The Bruins are also hoping that the offensive line continues to improve.
On defense UCLA should be faster and bigger than last year. They will be led by linebacker Caleb Johnson, defensive backs Quentin Lake, Qwuantrezz Knight, Stephen Blaylock and defensive lineman Otiti Ogonna.
The Bruins second game of the season will be another home game. They will play LSU on Saturday, September 4, at 5:30 p.m. on FOX.....
USC football opens its season on Saturday, September 4 at 2 p.m. against San Jose State at the Memorial Coliseum. The Trojans are ranked in the top 20 in the nation and one of the main reasons why is they have one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Kedon Slovis. Slovis' number one target will be Drake London.
USC should be strong on defense because of lineman Drake Jackson, and defensive backs Isaiah Pola-Mao and Chris Steele. Look for the No. 1 recruit in the nation, Korey Foreman to also help their defense.....
The LAFC of Major League Soccer takes on the Galaxy at the Bank of California Stadium at 4 p.m. Saturday. After having success during their first two years as an expansion team in the league the Black and Gold is struggling this season with a record of 6-9-5 which is good enough for ninth place in the 12 team Western Conference. They have another home game on September 3, at 7 p.m.....
The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA are currently on a six-game road trip. Their next home game is Thursday, September 9, at the Staples Center. They are playing better after the Olympic break and are hoping to make the playoffs.
