The SMMUSD has issued a press release, reaffirming that in class instruction will begin in
Santa Monica and Malibu on August 19th, 2021. It is unclear whether or not masks will be required of students.
"Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is returning to in-person instruction for the 2021-22 school year with health and safety protocols in place as directed by our guiding agencies," writes the District. "The California Department of Education (CDE) has authorized school districts to return to full in-person instruction for the upcoming school year, with an alternative option for independent study."
"Senate Bill (SB) 98 permitted virtual/distance learning during the 2020-21 school year only. For this school year, the 2021-22 Enacted Budget, Assembly Bill (AB) 130, allows for only two instructional models: in-person learning and the voluntary alternative model of independent study."
The press release goes on to invite parents to a Zoom meeting on August 3rd, which will also be available to watch later.
