School Board Selects Iowa Firm to Conduct Superintendent Search

The CCUSD Board of Education this week selected an educational. executive recruiting agency to head the search for the next superintendent.

At its Tuesday night's meeting, the Board unanimously voted to approve the Iowa-based firm, Ray and Associates Inc. to find a replacement for the retiring Supt. Leslie Lockhart.

The Board is expected to meet in the next few days to approve the contract with Ray and Associates which touted on its website "its commitment to inclusion, equity, social justice and elimination of racism in the delivery of school leadership search practices."

On April 13, Lockhart announced that she was retiring from the district after 23 years and leaving from her post on June 30. Lockhart will serve as superintendent emeritus until Dec. 31.

At its May 11 meeting, the Board along teachers' union representatives and 30 viewers watched presentations by four search firms on Zoom and then offered their comments on the candidates.

"At the close of public comment, a poll was taken of the public to gauge their preferences," Board President Tashon McKeithan said in a statement. "Thirteen individuals participated in the polling."

According to its website, Ray and Associates has been in the school executive search business since 1975 and has established an outstanding reputation for recruiting candidates that match the expectations of the Board and community.

"We have also been extremely successful in recruiting women, minorities and non-traditional candidates for school districts," the firm said.
