USC senior outside hitter Brooke Botkin (Houston, Texas/Pearland HS) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of March 15-21 the Conference announced on Tuesday, March 23.
It is the second-career Pac-12 weekly award for Botkin and the 79th all-time for the Women of Troy. Stanford freshman libero Elena Oglivie was chosen Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and Arizona outside hitter Sofia Maldonado Diaz was named Freshman of the Week.
Botkin has been a steady and consistent force for the Women of Troy in a season of uncertainty. Last week, she posted 38 kills (4.22 kps) and 27 digs (3.00 dps) to help the Trojans get a hard-earned split with 15th-ranked crosstown rival UCLA. In the first meeting, Botkin scored 15 kills (4e, 35att) with .314 hitting and had eight digs, a service ace, and a block. On the road, Botkin carried the load for the Trojans with her 25th-career double-double performance on season highs of 23 kills (6e, .250) and 68 attacks to go with 19 digs. Her 24.5 points were the lion's share of what the Trojans needed to secure the 3-2 win in Westwood.
This season, Botkin has produced seven double-doubles and scored double-digit kills and points in all but one contest. She averages 3.67 kills per set and 4.15 points per set to rank among the league's top 10 and records 2.38 digs per set as one of the Trojan's primary passers and defenders.
Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Pac-12 began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the 10th year (since 2011) that the Conference has announced separate offensive, defensive, and freshman honorees. Freshman of the week honors are not included in the all-time totals for each institution. Since 2011, USC players have received 22 offensive awards, 11 defensive awards, and 19 freshman honors. In total, USC counts 79 Player of the Week certificates and ranks third all-time in the Pac-12.
USC (4-8, 4-8 Pac-12) is on the road for its final two regular-season matches and will face Arizona (9-9, 9-9) in Tucson, Ariz., this weekend. The Trojans and the Wildcats meet on Friday (March 26) at 6 p.m. PT and on Sunday (March 28) at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at McKale Center and streamed live by Arizona Athletics.
