The NFL announced the awarding of 44 additional compensatory draft picks to various NFL teams. Both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams were awarded additional compensatory draft picks, with the Chargers receiving a 3rd round pick (97th overall) and the Rams awarded three additional picks, two in the 3rd round (101 & 104 overall), and a 4th round pick (142nd overall).

The Chargers were awarded a 3rd round choice for quarterback Philip Rivers, who signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts for $25 million dollars. The Rams were awarded a 3rd round pick for the loss of defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. to the Atlanta Falcons and a 4th round pick for the loss of linebacker Cory Littleton to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Rams picked up an additional 3rd round pick in this draft with the hiring of Brad Holmes with the Detroit Lions. The pick was awarded to the Rams under a new NFL initiative that rewards teams that lose minority coaching and General Manager candidates. The Rams will also gain a third-round pick in next year’s draft from the Holmes hiring.
For the Chargers, they now officially have nine draft picks in the 2021 NFL draft, four in the top 100. They also have an extra sixth round pick from the trade of defensive back Desmond King to the Tennessee Titans. For the Rams, the additional compensatory picks in the third round and fourth round give them a total of seven picks in the 2021 NFL draft. The third round pick the Rams recently loss with the acquisition of Lions quarterback Mathew Stafford has been replaced.
