A production from 2019, never before seen in Los Angeles, Matthew Bourne's "Romeo and Juliet" is a passionate and contemporary re-imagining of Shakespeare's classic story of love and conflict. Set in the not-too-distant future in 'The Verona Institute' and mysteriously confined against their will by a society that seeks to divide and crush their youthful spirits, our two young lovers must follow their hearts as they risk everything to be together.
A story about 'repressed emotions and teenage discovery is no better told than by the young', said Matthew Bourne. Inspired by this and as part of New Adventures' ambition to support the next generation of on-stage talent, Romeo and Juliet featured the finest emerging male and female dancers from around the UK.
Directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne, the design is by Lez Brotherston, lighting is by Paule Constable and sound is by Paul Groothuis with new orchestrations of the Prokofiev score by Terry Davies, played live by the New Adventures Orchestra.
