The City of Santa Monica has extended its eviction moratorium until January 31, 2021. This as Covid-19 infections are rising in LA County and across the US.
Commercial tenants basically are expected to pay half the rent, unless their businesses are closed due to emergency orders. Closed restaurants fall into this exception, for example. They are not expected to pay any rent at all.
Santa Monica has a total moratorium on evictions for any reason other than non payment of rent. There are also Federal State and County eviction moratoriums in effect, which differ somewhat in scope. For details, please consult your lawyer or the City’s website.
