Rideshare/gig economy apps such as Uber, Lyft and Doordash may continue to pay their employees as independent contractors, as California voters approved Proposition 22.
The measure reversed legislation passed in Sacramento, that mandated gig economy workers be paid as employees. This would mean deductions for workers compensation, and for other taxes.
Uber and other ride share companies spent over $200,000,000 on passing the measure, a record for any ballot initiative in any US State.
