LO- Sen. Bernie Sanders announced Friday his endorsement of Sen. Holly Mitchell for Supervisor as part of his slate of 19 progressive Democratic candidates running for state, city and county level positions in California for the general election. Mitchell is in the run-off for Los Angeles County's Second Supervisorial District.
"Our campaign was never about one election or one candidate," Sanders said in a statement. "The only way our movement can continue is if we work together to elect great, progressive candidates at every level of government, in every state in this country. I am proud to endorse these excellent leaders who will make a difference in the lives of Californians. Together we will create a California and a nation based o social justice, racial justice, economic justice, and environmental justice for all."
"I'm honored to be endorsed by Senator Sanders alongside so many outstanding candidates," Mitchell said. "While national elections are important, change often happens first at the local level and that is why it is essential to vote for strong leaders in down ballot races. I look forward to fighting for progressive policies that lift up all residents of Los Angeles County if elected Supervisor."
Sanders joins a rapidly growing list of leaders that support Mitchell for Supervisor including Gov. Gavin Newsom, former Gov. Jerry Brown, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44), State Superintendent Tony Thurmond, State Controller Betty Yee, and dozens of local elected and community leaders.
