LA Court Delays Trials to November

In case you were wondering whether or not you have to perform jury duty during the pandemic, the answer right now is no. However the Court’s are accepting filings, hearings are being conducted on motions, and the phone’s are being answered.

"The Los Angles County Department of Public Health has expressed concerns to the Court about commencing jury trials and bringing jurors into County courthouses given the current COVID-19 numbers and trends," Presiding Judge Brazile said.

The LA Superior Court has extended the deadlines for Civil and Criminal trials. Non Jury civil trials are on hold until after Nov. 16, 2020. If one party wants a Jury trial, they'll be waiting for that until at least January.

All non-jury trials, including General Civil, Criminal, Mental Health, and Probate scheduled from August 10, 2020 to September 8, 2020, are continued until further notice. Civil non-jury trials won’t start before November 16, 2020, except Small Claims and Traffic trials, which resumed 8/10/2020. These do not require juries.
