The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Culver City is rising at a slow rate while Los Angeles County is setting new daily records of infection and deaths, the County Health Department has reported.
As of press time Wednesday, the number of local residents with Covid-19 rose to 313 cases, a 4% increase in the past week. Deaths related to coronavirus totaled 27 in Culver City.
In Los Angeles County, there were 91 new deaths and 4,825 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday. Health officials said the high number of new deaths and new cases are, in part, due to a backlog of reports from Thursday through Sunday.
To date, Public Health has identified 183,383 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County, and a total of 4,516 deaths. Public Health anticipates continuing to receive a backlog of lab reports in the coming days due to problems with the state electronic lab reporting system.
“I know that we’re all eager and anxious to see our lives return to normal,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. “We want our children to be back at school, seeing their friends and making cherished memories. We have the tools at hand to make this happen. We need compliance with our directives - so please continue to wear a face covering and do not gather with people you don’t live with.”
The rate of infection in Culver City stands at 785 per 100,000 population. But it’s much lower than the 100K levels at some neighboring cities, including Beverly Hills at 1535, Inglewood at 1687 and the City of Los Angeles 1846.
