Covid Deaths Top 20 in Culver City

Twenty residents in Culver City have died from COVID-19, including 10 in nursing homes, the County Health Department reported this week.

As of press time Wednesday, the number of local residents with coronavirus rose to 161 cases, a 30% increase in the past 2 weeks.

According to Public Health officials, 50 cases of Covid-19 and 10 deaths were reported at Marina Pointe Healthcare and Subacute in Culver City.

County-wide, the total infected now stands at 58,234 with 2489 deaths. Ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions.

The rate of infection in Culver City has risen to 403.5 per 100,000 population. The more affluent areas appear to have much lower per 100K levels, including Santa Monica at 311.5, Cheviot Hills 239.8, Brentwood 264.6, Century City 273.7 and West Los Angeles 225.8.

"This is a very difficult time for our communities, and there are many people who are experiencing the profound sorrow of loved ones who have passed away from Covid-19. We are very deeply sorry for your loss," said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. "We join the many voices coming together in anger, frustration and protest around the murder of George Floyd. Let's work together to prevent our peaceful protests from resulting in more transmission of COVID-19."

A new Health Officer Order has been issued that allows for in-person dining at restaurants and hair salons to reopen once the establishments are able to implement the required distancing and infection control devices. Brewpubs, breweries, bars, pubs, craft distilleries and wineries that do not offer sit-down, dine-in meals are still required to stay closed.
