Dear Editor:
Following up on the recent letter by Madeline Bernstein, President spcaLA, “In time of uncertainty, spcaLA is essential”, I would like to add information for those residents who love their pets but are experiencing financial problems during this time of the COVID-19 crisis.
As the Director of Friends of Culver City Animals and a District Leader (District 37) for The Humane Society of the United States, I am in receipt of an extensive list of national and state resources for pet owners in need.
In addition to the valuable resources offered by spcaLA (www.spcala.com) , the excellent shelter used by Culver City, there is help available through other organizations in the form of food, spay/neuter services and veterinary care. A partial list of organizations include: Actors and Others for Animals (www.actorsandothers.com), the Animal Health Foundation (www.animalhealthfoundation.net), the California Department of Social Services Assistance dog Special Allowance (ADSA) Program (; ADSAUser@dss.ca.gov; http://www.cdss.ca.gov/Assistance-Dogs) for eligible persons who use a guide, signal or service dog, the Helen Woodward Animal Center (info@animalcenter.org), the Pet Assistance Foundation (www.petassistancefoundation.org) supplies spay/neuter assistance for dogs, cats and rabbits, and Pets of the Homeless (www.petsofthehomeless.org).
For residents who are able to foster/adopt shelter pets, including unweaned kittens, please contact: Stray Animal Alliance (www.straycatalliance.org), spcaLA (www.spcaLA.com), Death Row Dogs (www.deathrowdogsrescue.com), and Adopt & Shop (www.adoptandshop.org). This is only a partial list. The local Los Angeles Animal Services shelters are also making adoptable pets available for foster.
Online donations to these organizations are welcomed.
If you know of anyone who is considering relinquishing a pet due to financial hardship, please share this information. They can also contact Friends of Culver City Animals at info@friendsofculversityanimals.org.
Be safe, be healthy and prayers that COVID-19 passes quickly.
Deborah Weinrauch, Director
Friends of Culver City Animals
