After a mere eight months Vegan Restaurant Doomies Home Cookin’ has shuttered the Culver City location. The Vegan restaurant cited red tape “permit hurdles” at city hall, unforeseen renovations and missed opportunities as reasons behind the closure.
The restaurant on the corner of Culver Blvd. and Duquesne Ave. has had bad luck in keeping restaurants long term. On Facebook James Marcus writes tongue in cheek, “That spot has always been a doomed location.” Indeed, a ramen restaurant that occupied the same location closed in a matter of weeks. Dozens of restaurants have closed and been quickly replaced in the past several years. The popularity of the downtown area has allowed rents to skyrocket which labor and food costs continue to rise.
I should be noted however neighboring restaurants like Akasha, Rush Street and many others continue to thrive.
The closure does not affect their Hollywood location which remains open.
