Supervisors Race Heats Up

With Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas termed out for the Second District seat he has held since 2008 a plethora of candidates have entered the race. Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, former Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, state Sen. Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, civil rights activist Earl Ofari Hutchinson and community advocate Sharis Rhodes have all declared they intend to seek the office. Wesson resigned last week as council president in order to focus on his campaign although he will remain on the Los Angeles City Council.

In what has become a game of musical chairs due to term limits Ridley-Thomas is seeking Wesson's City Council seat.

The Board of Supervisors seat is nonpartisan and if no candidate receives a majority vote in the March primary, the top two finishers will compete in a runoff in November general election.
