The Marina del Rey Symphony has announced its summer lineup of concerts held a t Burton Chase Park in the marina. Thursdays-Free
The free concerts start at 7:00PM
First up on Thursday, July 11 will be Opera at the Shore with stage performances and selections from Puccini's "La Bohème" followed by a live screening and performance of a new score by Craig Safan to the 1925 silent movie, "The Phantom of the Opera."
Followed on Thursday, July 25 with Sights, Sounds & Dance in America. The Symphony teams again with the Nancy Dobbs Owen Dance Troupe for a celebration of American dance, with selections from Gershwin's "An American in Paris" Craig Safan's "Sirens," based on his work "Odysseus," Aaron Copland, 4 Dance Episodes from "Rodeo" and Stravinsky, "The Firebird."
August will begin on the 8th with the Kronos Quartet. The Grammy-winning strings troupe brings classical music into the 21st century with innovative sounds and a vibrant stage presence. The Marina del Rey Symphony is not performing.
On both Thursday, August 22 and Saturday August 24 enjoy Cole Porter, "Kiss Me Kate," fully staged with the same production team from last year's "South Pacific," Conductor Fetta and Stage Director Zeffin Quinn Hollis.
Free “Pops Saturdays” will be held as follow; Saturday, July 20 Rickie Lee Jones; Saturday, August 3 Jon Batiste; Saturday, August 17 Leela James; Saturday, August 31 Jenny and the Mexicats.
All Saturday Pops are free.
You are urged to bring a picnic, a jacket, a blanket to sit on and one to wrap yourself in as it can get chilly and damp. If you bring a chair, please make sure it has a low back to not obstruct the view of those behind you.
