Finley's Sports Updates

Culver City junior catcher on the girls' softball team, Ashley Baizer was named to the All-CIF Division 4 team. The Centaurs had a deep run into the CIF playoffs thanks to players like Baizer.

The Culver City High School varsity football team is currently having an outstanding summer passing league season. The Centaurs have won several tournaments and they will be hosting their own tournament Saturday, July 13.

The LAFC of the professional soccer league (MLS) continues lead the league in points and wins. They are currently 11-1-4 with 37 points. They are led by Player of the Year Candidate Carlos Vega. Other players that have made an impact are Latif Blessing, Diego Rossi, Mark Anthony-Kaye, Christian Ramirez, Walker Zimmerman, Tristan Blackmon and Adama Diomande.

Their head coach is Bob Bradley. Bradley is one of the best soccer coaches in America. He helped lead the 2018 LAFC to one of the best records for an expansion team in MLS history. A 1980 graduate of Princeton University, Bradley has coached soccer since 1981.

The LAFC will play two home games in July, three home games in August and three home games in September. Even if you are not a soccer fan attending a game at the new Banc of California Stadium is a special experience. The stadium opened in the spring of 2018 and it's the first open-air stadium built in Los Angeles since 1962.

The Dodgers are currently 55-26, which leads major league baseball. When the Dodgers traded away outfielders Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig from last years World Series team a lot of people thought that would hurt their hitting department. Thanks to the power hitting of outfielders Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson the Dodgers are the talk of major league baseball. Bellinger is developed into one of the best hitters in the major leagues.

The Dodgers will start a six game home stand on July 2.
