Lady Centaurs Beat Peter Knight 2-1

First Round Win in CIF SS Division 3 Soccer

After having beaten Peter Knight 1-0 in last year's first round playoffs, Culver City knew they were in for a very up-tempo game. Surprisingly, the Hawks looked even quicker as they scored first midway thru the first half on a long ball.

The Hawks still led at half-time. Talking calmly to his players, Coach Pete Bartlett, pointed out that he felt that the Hawks would probably tire in the second half and that if the girls remained patience and kept the pressure on, they would break through and have a chance to win the game.

Coach Bartlett's prediction was right. Senior Brooke Dunlap sent a long blast late in the second half into the back of the goal, tying the game at 1-1; and the clincher, by junior Alexia Mallahi in extra time meant the Centaurs will play Alta Loma (14-8-1) which dramatically won its first round match against Paloma Valley, 5 to 4 in penalty kicks.

Culver City (13-5-5) will host the Braves at the Jerry Chabola Stadium on Friday, February 8th at 5:00 pm.
