Lady Centaurs Beat Alta Loma 1-0
Last Friday night, the Culver City High Girls Varsity Soccer team made program history. The Lady Centaurs (14-6-4) shutout a very physical Alta Loma (17-7-3) to become the first girls' varsity soccer team to make it into the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.
Emily de los Santos scored the early goal, and from there, the Centaur defense took over shutting down the Brave's offense.
Second-year coach Peter Bartlett noted, "We started the game better than our previous rounds. They were fired up and got the early lead. A one to nothing lead is very tough to defend. The girls showed great resilience all the way to the end against a very good team. It just shows how (much) character this team has. The players that came off the bench did a really outstanding job."
With the win over Alta Loma, Culver City move on to play West who beat Oxnard 2-0. The Lady Centaurs and the West Warriors met earlier in December in the pre-season and played to a 1-1 tie.
The Culver City will host their rematch this Tuesday (2/12) at 3:00 pm at the Jerry Chabola Stadium.
GO CENTAURS!!
