Culver City Boys Soccer Beats Fillmore 3-0

Centaurs: No Longer A "One and Done" Team

Strong play by the defensive back line, led by goalkeeper Marco Vasquez and combined with first half goals by Sebastian Mejia and Kevin Bautista along an early second half goal by Curtis Collazos has put host Culver City into the second round of the CIF SS Division 4 playoffs.

Keeper Vasquez (4 saves) said, "The defense knew it had to come out and play focused. Everybody was very consistent tonight, throughout the game. We deserved this win.

Assistant coach Michael Castillo--Class of 2010-"These boys understand what the playoffs mean and its importance. We are not a big, physical team. We cannot play a physical game. So we have to keep our play simple, in order to win."

Desi Dickson (Forward) commented on the team's lack of consistency during league play, "Sometimes, we were on and other times we were off a little. But, tonight, everybody showed up, ready to play their game."

Jesse Castillo (Midfielder) remembered an old sports adage, "Good Offenses will win games, but a good Defense wins championships." He reflected on why this year's team is playing so well. "Most of our teammates have played together since we were little kids. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses and along with great coaching, we could go far.

By shutting out the Fillmore Flashes, Culver City now has to travel to play #2 seed Tustin (19-2-2) Saturday, February 9, at Tustin high school Stadium at 3:00 pm.
