Gayle Imogene Machado passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2018 at age 98, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kingston, Missouri and raised in Ames, Iowa, she was the third of four children of Scott and Bertha Blackstone.
Gayle served in the Women's Army Air Corps in San Antonio, Texas where she met and married James Machado in 1945. They soon moved to Culver City where they joined with the extended Machado family as holders of the land grant "Rancho La Ballona." They raised four sons and enjoyed active involvement in their activities, and those of their grandchildren. After being widowed in 1990, Gayle continued as matriarch of the family, hosting parties, dinners, and trips. Active well into her nineties and always ready for a new adventure, she was a poet, photographer, painter, and traveler who eagerly welcomed family and friends to her home.
She is survived and deeply missed by her sons James (Raphaele), Douglas (Cathy), Gregory (Vanna), and Rodney (Sara), 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services for Gayle will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City at 11:00 am on November 15.
