The Culver City Historical Society is inviting the general public to its Oct. 17 meeting to celebrate Culver's early movie locations and see what they look like today.
The free event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Ave.
Much of the program will focus on the short comedies produced by Hal Roach Studios, most notably the Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang series that were primarily shot in and around Culver City.
That portion of the program will be narrated by Chris Bungo, who spots movie locations from the 1920s and '30s, photographs them, and then uses the photos to assemble fascinating then-and-now videos.
Some of those short videos about Culver City locales will be shown at the meeting.
Hal Roach expert Richard Bann, co-author of Our Gang: The Life and Times of the Little Rascals, also will present a brief history of Hal Roach Studios.
