The Culver City Police Department will host the local celebration of "National Night Out" on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Veterans Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The department and its sponsors will provide free food, other refreshments, large bounce houses for kids and a variety of other activities. Visitors will also have the chance to get an up-close look at police and fire department vehicles.
The nationwide event has been held annually since 1984. It is organized by the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.
National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police/community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It also provides the opportunity to bring police and local civilians together under positive circumstances.
More than 38 million residents in 20,000 communities now take part in the event. Culver City officially began celebrating it in 2016.
Dozens of local police officers, firefighters and their respective department's top officials are expected to attend. So are the mayor and councilmembers.
Sponsors of this year celebration include Tito's Tacos, Cedars-Sinai, Rotary Club, Target, Costco and Nike.
