The community is invited to learn about the West LA College Film/TV Production Crafts program at a special info session May 2 at 10 a.m.
The program, profiled by PBS and the LA Times, is unique among area community colleges.
Participants prepare for entry-level positions in behind-the-scenes entertainment industry crafts. The instructors are entertainment industry veterans, teaching skills in work areas of grip, set lighting, costuming, set painting and set decorating, as well as more traditional disciplines such as camera, sound and editing. . In addition to technical skills, the program includes comprehensive life skills coaching, and support to promote success in obtaining and maintaining employment.
The college partners with local studios and entertainment venues, including Sony Pictures Entertainment.
West is an ACJCC accredited community college, with tuition at $46/unit for California residents; many students qualify for tuition fee waivers and grants. 2018 LAUSD high school and Adult School graduates can use the LA College Promise $0.00 Tuition scholarship to cover enrollment fees for the first year of the one to two-year degree and certificate pathways.
