Carlos Gausman, 25, of Santa Monica was killed when his car hit a tree on Washington Blvd. April 6 after a hit and run accident he was speeding away from.
Culver City Police received a call at 4:20 a.m. saying a single car had collided with a tree on Washington Blvd. between Helms and Sherbourne Avenues. Police officers and the Culver City Fire Department were on the scene. The Fire Department attempted first aid, which was unsuccessful.
Lt. Troy Dunlop, Culver City Police Community Relations liaison, said that speed was the primary factor in the collision. Gausman’s Honda Civic had sideswiped a parked vehicle in the 4100 block of Higuera Avenue just prior to crashing at a high rate of speed into a tree on the median at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Caroline Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Thursday
Whether alcohol or drugs were involved is unknown, pending results of toxicology tests by the coroner.
Washington Boulevard was closed for hours to allow the coroner to remove the body and for police to clear the area.
