The 10th-seeded USC women's volleyball team (23-9) defeated Central Arkansas (27-5) in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-12) in the first round of the 2017 NCAA DI Volleyball Championship at Galen Center last Friday, Dec. 1. Senior opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie finished with 14 kills marking her 1,000th career kill. She became just the 16th player in program history to break 1,000-kills. Sophomore outside hitter Khalia Lanier led all players with 24 kills to go with five digs and four service aces. Playing the next night, the 14th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (24-9) then defeated No. 9-ranked UC San Diego (25-5) in a very hard-fought five-set match (25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 15-11) in the second round of the 2017 NCAA DI Championship last Saturday, Dec. 2.
The victory over San Diego sends the Women of Troy off to Gainesville, Florida for their sixth NCAA regional semifinal appearance in the last eight years under Coach Mick Haley; there they will face seventh-seed Minnesota (28-5) on Dec. 8.
