South Bay Lakers Hire Metta World Peace As Player Development Coach

The South Bay Lakers have hired Metta World Peace as a player development coach, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella.

World Peace comes to South Bay as a seasoned veteran of the Lakers organization, having spent six seasons as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers (2009-13, 2015-17). World Peace was a key player on the 2010 NBA Champion Lakers and ranks ninth all-time in three pointers made (420) in franchise history.

The four-time All-Defensive team selection posted career averages of 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his 17-year career with the Bulls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets, Knicks and Lakers.

World Peace joins Head Coach Coby Karl and Assistant Coaches Brian Walsh, Isaiah Fox, Dane Johnson and Sean Nolen to finalize the South Bay Lakers’ coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.

South Bay opens training camp on Tuesday, October 24.

The NBA G League’s South Bay Lakers, the first franchise in G League history to be owned by an NBA team (Los Angeles Lakers), will return for its 11th season of competition in 2017-18. The Lakers franchise has established itself as a top producer of NBA-ready talent, totaling 26 NBA Call-Ups and developing 19 Lakers assignment players since the inaugural 2006-07 season. Last season, the Lakers returned to the playoffs for the third time in the last four years and produced the league MVP in guard Vander Blue. The Lakers have claimed three division titles and have twice competed in the NBA G League Finals, most recently in 2015-16.

For the first season, the Lakers will play their home games at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, CA. Information on South Bay Lakers 2017-18 season ticket packages and single-game tickets can be found by logging onto the team’s website (www.sblakers.com).
