Culver High Grad Sutherland Dead at 67

Charles Stuart Sutherland, a 67-year resident of California and a 30-year resident of Morongo Valley, died July 20 in Palm Springs. The son of George Wesley Sutherland and Pegeen Nugent (Sutherland), he was born May 5, 1950 in Culver City. After graduating Culver City High class of 1968 and attending Northern Arizona University he worked as a revenue auditor for various hotels and casinos in the California desert. The last position he held before his retirement was at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto for 10 years. A private scattering of ashes at Grand Canyon National Park is to take place Sept. 1 at sunrise. In lieu of flowers, listen to "What's Goin'On" by 4 Non-Blondes. That was his favorite song to play loudly. Charles was a devoted husband and the perfect father for his daughter. He will be missed most of all for his punny sense of humor, easygoing nature and laugh. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pegeen Nugent, his father, George Wesley Sutherland, his stepmother, Emily Davis-Sutherland, and his wife, Janett Alexandra Sutherland. He is survived by his daughter, Erin Emily Sutherland, of Morongo Valley, and his sister, Patricia Sutherland-Morabito, of Reno, Nevada.
