Culver National Bank Chief John Newhouse Dies

John Newhouse, former President of Culver National Bank in Culver City died on Sunday after suffering a stroke two weeks ago. Newhouse and his father George Newhouse built Culver National Bank into a powerhouse for local businesses. They could help you when other banks would turn you down. One local branch manager of a major bank said, “when people walk in and tell me “Culver National did this for me’ I would stop them immediately and tell them that I was sorry and couldn’t do what Culver National did.”Culver National was sold in 1997 to Bank of Los Angeles which was later merged into US Bank. John and George were the last of a dying breed when the handshake was more important than your signature. George Newhouse died in 2006. Since the sale of the bank John has been a financial advisor.
